Biggar pull to triumph in Lanarkshire Tug of War
Biggar Rugby Club had cancelled training sessions as the rain continued, but the Young Farmers competition went ahead despite everything.
“It was very muddy,” said Robyn Struthers of Biggar YFC. “The teams all did well. They did not change the place where they were pulling, and it turned into a proper mudbath!”

“They were all weighed before the competition, so they had been training very hard!” said Robyn.
The Biggar Red Team of Ian Lyon, David Paterson, Stuart Hogg, Euan Sanderson, Jamie Orr and James Simpson, won in the boys section, with Biggar Black second – a reflection of last year’s national competition when Biggar took top spots.
Avondale were top girls, with Biggar second.
Winners go on to the West area heats at Ayr this Saturday.
