This week in 1902
MUNICIPAL elections were held in Kilsyth: “Up to the prescribed hour of 4 p.m. on Tuesday Mr Lennox, Town Clerk, only received the requisite number of nominations for the vacancies on the Town Council. These were in favour of: North Ward - Mr David Smith Shanks; East Ward - Colonel Frew; West Ward - Mr John Barrowman, senior. The first two are re-elected and Mr Barrowman takes the place of Mr Brown. A nomination paper in favour of Mr M. Comrie as a candidate in the North Ward was duly signed, but the messenger to whom its deliver was entrusted was only on his way to the Town Clerk’s office after 4 o’clock and being informed he was too late did not lodge his paper.”
This week in 1937
THE sanitary inspector reported to the County Public Health Committee that tenders were being taken for 34 new houses at Banton, but building could not be undertaken until there had been considered the question of providing modern sewage works and increasing the water storage.

KILSYTH Anderson Women’s Guild held a Hallowe’en party which was enjoyed by a large assembly of guests. It was deemed a very entertaining evening with the Social Club members performing sketches and plenty of Hallowe’en fare.
This week in 1987
PETROL blaze at Kilsyth Police Office was an emergency that was rather too close for comfort for local officers. Two officers extinguished a blaze which followed an accident where an unmarked police van knocked down a petrol pump at the rear of the station. The blow caused an electrical short circuit which set fire to the escaping petrol. A police spokesman credited Constable Adrian Kelly and the duty sergeant for extinguishing the fire.
