Match made for Haven

A KILSYTH man who organised a charity football match with the auld enemy has raised vital funds for a hospice.

Tommy Twigg, who lives in Manse Road, has collected £650 for the Halton Haven Hospice in Runcorn.

The match held on Sunday, August 12, saw a select Scotland side featuring Tommy take on a England team at the Widnes Vikings Stadium in Runcorn in aid of hospice who recently had two of their vans stolen, although one was later recovered.

The News and Chronicle recently reported that the theft prompted 41-year-old Tommy, who lived in that area for six months, to do something for the hospice which works tirelessly to help others.

Scotland won the match 4-3 on penalties after a 4-4 draw, and Tommy event had the honour of scoring the winning penalty.

Tommy wants to thank Boulevard Hire Drive in Glasgow for providing a free bus down to England and Total Teamwear Ltd in Glasgow for being match-ball sponsor as well as funny man John Bishop for donating tickets to his one of his shows.

He hopes to have a return game next year with monies raised going to a Scottish charity, and anyone who wishes to donate to the cause can still do so by texting HOSP74 with the amount they wish to give to 70070.
