HAVE you ever watched a movie and thought you could write something better? Or maybe you've always had this idea for the next big stage play.
Well now could be your chance to finally do something about it. Script Scribblers Anon, a new creative script writing club based in Cumbernauld Theatre, is looking for members.
Joe Thomson, one of the club founders, said: "You don't need to have a
lot of experience in writing. All you need is an interest in writing and an active imagination.
"We reckon there are a lot of talented writers out there who are looking for a way to get their work seen in public, so this is their chance.
Mandy Edgar, another founding member, added: "We'd originally approached Cumbernauld Theatre simply asking for a space where we could meet.
"But Ed Robson, the artistic director at the Theatre, was really keen to have us there and offered a lot of support for the group, including the chance to actually have anything we write performed on stage at the theatre next May."
And that is a night that Joe and Mandy already have plans for.
Joe said: "One of the first things we are looking at doing is adapting Stephen Briggs stage play of Terry Pratchett's 'Guards! Guards!' into a radio play.
"We've spoken to both Stephen Briggs and Terry Pratchett and both of them and they have given us the go ahead for it, so we're really excited to see how that turns out."
The plan for next year's showcase is to have a good mixture of genre's and script types from radio plays, stage plays and screenplays.
Mandy added: " I see the showcase next year as being an eclectic mix of different genres.
"It might start with a short romantic play, followed by a short horror film, which is then followed by a comedy about zombies. Pretty much anything goes."
With the support of the theatre, the plan between now and next May is for the group to have various script writing workshops throughout the year as well as talks from established writers on the craft of script writing.
Script Scribblers Anon meet on Thursday nights at 7.30pm at Cumbernauld Theatre.
