Review: The Coy Dogs; Friday, July 1, Twa Corbies ‘Red House’

WHAT A night at the Two Corbies last Friday with the awesome Coy Dogs!

Rock’n’roll fans began arriving a full hour before doors opened to the public. Girls done up to the nines in their full 1950s finery – one girl was even glammed up as Marilyn Monroe – and the guys in full Rockabilly mode: winkle pickers, greased hair, drainpipe jeans, the lot. The Coy Dogs blasted off into their set at 9pm prompt with covers of classic material by Elvis, Johnny Cash, Gene Vincent, and Stray Cats.

With acrobatic jive dancing by Ray Doull and his wife, a crammed dancefloor and guitarists Paul McCrae and Martin Mitchell standing on the tables, playing guitar behind their heads through the four encores, the audience were clamouring after the gig for copies of the band’s CD. And the best news is the Coy Dogs will be back at the Corbies on September 16 - sure to be eagerly anticipated at what is rapidly becoming one of Cumbernauld’s busiest venues once more.
