The St Patrick's pupils celebrate Scotland with a piper, poems and songs - and of course, a haggis

THEY may have been a week late, but that didn’t stop these youngsters at St Patrick’s Primary celebrating all things Scottish.

A week after Burns Night, all of the pupils at the Backbrae Street school performed a selection of poems and songs in front of their very proud parents.

Of course, as is the tradition, the haggis, and its honest, sonsy face, took pride of place in the proceedings.

Piper Mike Fitzhenry also turned up and gave a number of rousing renditions to ensure Scotland’s national instrument was not forgotten.

Pictured with the piper, far right, are, from left, Kieron Crainie, Olivia Wilson, Ben McGuinness, Kirsten Braidy and Jason Curtis.

All classes worked hard to put together their performances and the youngsters in primary seven performed a number of war songs which they learned during their topic.

Heather Hagan, school secretary, said: “It was a great day, the children were all dressed up in tartan.”

She added: “The parents and grandparents really enjoyed it too.”
