Romance with a gothic twist

GOTHIC romance is the order of the day as Company Chordelia visit Cumbernauld Theatre with their latest production Les Amoureux.

Based on the novel The Lady of the House of Love by Angela Carter, the central character is The Countess, an undead, reluctant huntress clad in the remnants of her wedding dress and sunglasses to shield her from light.

She turns over a tarot card. For the first time ever, she has drawn Les Amoureux. Her keeper and the shadows of her domain bear witness to the arrival of the handsome young soldier...

Combining elements of opera with dance and physical theatre, this production features Chordelia's artistic director Kally Lloyd-Jones as The Countess, and she is also the director and choreographer.

Kally recently directed Katya Kabanova for Scottish Opera and choreographed for the Scottish Opera productions of Die Fledermaus,

Cinderella, Dream Angus, A Night At The Chinese Opera, Two Widows, The Secret Marriage and The Italian Girl in Algiers as well as The Love Of Three Oranges, Tales of Hoffmann and War and Peace for the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama.

Opera singer Damian Thantrey is currently performing in A Little Night Music at the Thtre du Chtelet, Paris and recently sang in Scottish Opera's Die Fledermaus and A Night at the Chinese Opera.

Les Amoureux will be performed at Cumbernauld Theatre on Saturday, March 20 at 8pm. Tickets are 9/7.50/6, call 01236 732887 to book.
