A CUMBERNAULD school is in the running to win a national Gaelic short film award.

Greenfaulds High entered the fifth annual FilmG competition with their film ‘Dòchas’ which means hope in Gaelic.

FilmG, MG ALBA’s Gaelic online media shorts competition, announced the school as one of this year’s shortlisted films ahead of the awards ceremony, which takes place at The Arches in Glasgow on Friday, March 22.

The film provides an insight into the lives of young people as they give their opinions on the world around them and what the future holds for them.

The film is up for the FilmG Gaelic Award and Best Production, in the 12-17 category.

Michael Hines, director and FilmG judge, said: “I, along with the other judges, was very impressed with the overall quality of the entrants’ work.

“In this year’s FilmG competition there has been a marked raising of the bar in the technical expertise shown and it was a real delight to be able to enjoy all of these great stories.

“It demonstrates there is a real passion in those entering the competition for telling stories and it was a difficult job deciding on the shortlist.”
