NOT only is the Olympic torch set to pass through Cumbernauld on June 13 next year, but the local area also has the chance to be involved in a major cultural event to mark the closing of the Games.
Non-profit organisation Superact is organising a Bandstand Marathon - 500 simultaneous concerts as part of the Cultural Olympiad.
These will take place on September 9 next year, and the group is calling for choirs, bands and music groups to get involved.
Katharine Lane of Superact added: “This really is a unique opportunity for musicians in Cumbernauld to be part of a major national music event and create a musical legacy post-London 2012. Superact can offer bands a fee to take part plus support with planning and publicity – all of which is invaluable for them in the future”.
