Your View: better the devil you know?

ALEX Salmond and David Cameron have been furiously attempting to curry favour with the Scottish public in the run up to the independence referendum.

However, if responses are anything to go by, our readers remain unconvinced by either side.

Marian Roy’s mind has been made up. On Facebook, the southsider commented: “One word answer — neither!”

Diane Johnston added: “Pity there isn’t a third option. Too many question are not being answered but what else can you expect from politicians.”

Giffnock man David McClelland brought his answer a little closer to home, commenting: “About as much as I trust (East Renfrewshire council leader) Jim Fletcher.”

Similarly, reader Elizabeth Jeffrey remains unconvinced by the leaders of the country.

Replying on The Extra’s Facebook page, she answered: “That’s like asking if you trust an angry bear or a rabid dog more.

“Either way, there’s not a great outcome.”

On Twitter, one reader did decide to take sides.

Andrew Morrison tweeted in support of the prime minister, claiming Salmond’s hypocrisy as the reason behind his decision.

He told The Extra: “Salmond joined Labour in shouting for a plan B for the economy.

“Now he takes credit for it’s resurgence under plan A.”

We took to the streets to ask more southsiders: who do you trust more, Alex Salmond or David Cameron?

Gilbert Fleming (90), from Eaglesham, commented: “They are both politicians but I believe Cameron is more trustworthy.”

Wife Sheila (also 90) added: “Alex Salmond certainly tells the truth in an interesting fashion.”

Newton Mearns man Bill Key (59) told The Extra: “I don’t trust politicians at all. Most are lying toerags.

“I will definitely vote but neither side has convinced me so far in the independence debate. I have to read a lot more about it for myself.”

Robert Faulds (57) said: “They are both leaders of political parties — so as a result, I would never believe a single word that came out of either of their mouths.”

And Anne Lyons, also from Newton Mearns, added: “It is hard to decide between them, as I don’t trust either.

“When it comes to telling the truth, David Cameron’s track record is very poor, while Salmond does not seem to have a coherent plan.”
