A HARD-WORKING apprentice from Kilsyth is celebrating after beating off competition and taking home a national industry award.

Alistair MacKay was awarded the National Construction College Scotland Awards 2012 NCC 2nd year Ceiling Fixing Apprenticeship Award at a ceremony in Glasgow.

The 27-year-old, a second year apprentice with Pegasus Fire Protection in Edinburgh, won the prize from a shortlist of three finalists.

David Hazley, who is Alistair’s NCC instructor, said: “Alistair is a real team player and likes to lead by example.

“He was always first to offer to do things. The reasons he was nominated were he likes his job and was given a chance to do this trade which he has grasped with both hands. He is very level-headed about things and should do well in the future.”

The ceremony was hosted by Chris Barrett, head of vocational services at the NCC, and all finalists met and had their picture taken with guest speaker and the star of BBC show Ground Force, Tommy Walsh. above.
