Traders need to support Kilsyth Community Council as it fights for the future of the town, claims one of its members.
The member spoke about criticism the group has received for fighting against developments outside the traditional town centre.
The KCC recently successful stopped developers from building a retail unit on Parkfoot Road, The KCC welcomed the shops to the town but felt that they should be located in the Main Street.
He said: “If the shopkeepers were that interested in developing the Main Street and keeping footfall up, why were there not any objections from them? I think the shopkeepers have got to start supporting the community council in what we are doing.”
The traders at the meeting agreed with the community council but argued that fighting against applications for development outside the town centre in the past had got them no where. They also claimed that going against such developments can be bad for their own business.
