A Cumbernauld councillor has now been reported to a watchdog which examines standards of behaviour by politicians.

Labour’s Stephen Grant is now being investigated by the Commissioner for Ethical Standards in Edinburgh.

He was reported by an alleged victim of bullying from Glasgow who hit the headlines last month after claiming that Councillor Grant was aggressive to him and humiliated him during an appeal hearing.

This followed the man’s dismissal from a North Lanarkshire Council post in Wishaw.

A complaint from the man’s union has sparked an ongoing internal enquiry at the council.

However, the alleged victim is not alone in contacting the commission.

For the man’s MP, Scottish Nationalist Anne McLaughlin, is also on the case.

Ms McLaughlin confirmed: “I have written to them, asking that they complete a thorough investigation into these serious allegations and that they keep me updated with their enquiry.”

Mr Grant said: “This woman is just playing politics. I have conducted 37 of these hearings without any issues.

“I believe I’ll be cleared in both these investigations.”
