Cumbernauld and Kilsyth’s most senior policeman has issued a stark but impassioned warning to drivers regarding get-tough new drink driving limits
Chief Inspector David Bruce said: ‘‘I would urge you to ignore the many guides that give advice on what you can drink but still be under the limit.
“The internet is full of graphs based on size, sex, metabolic rates and all sorts of information designed to give you confidence that a certain amount of alcohol will keep you under the limit.
“Please don’t trust these sites or other bold announcements such as one pint of beer or a small glass of wine is guaranteed to pass the breathalyser test.
“I can assure you that 29 years of policing has taught me the only guaranteed way for anybody to be to be safe and under the limit is not to take any alcohol.’’
He also revealed that 102 drivers were arrested for drink-driving related offences in Cumbernauld last year.
It’s emerged too that three drink drive arrests were made in as many days last week.
