Knife incident in Cumbernauld supermarket

Police were called to Asda yesterday(Wednesday) after an alleged incident with a man who pulled a knife on a security guard.

The incident took place between 2.45pm and 3.10pm after staff challenged a man who had allegedly been shoplifting.

The 49-year old man who is alleged to have stolen from the shop got into an altercation with the guard.

Police say his next move was to allegedly present a knife to the security guard.

The man soon disappeared but police were called in to trace him and did so successfully.

As a conequence the man has been arrested in relation to shoplifting and for assault.

A report on this incident has been sent to the fiscal in Airdrie.
