Police enquiries continue following a serious assault which took place in Cumbernauld in the early hours of Sunday, September 11.

At around 25 minutes after midnight, a 23-year-old man was waiting in the car park of the Woodcutters Inn Public House in Abronhill’s Hazel Road when a white Ford Transit van pulled up beside him. A man got out of the van and stabbed and assaulted the 23-year-old.

The victim was found by other people leaving the bar and they alerted emergency services. The injured man was taken by ambulance to Monklands District General Hospital where he is currently being treated. His condition is described as stable.

Detective Constable Scott McCracken at Cumbernauld CID said: “This was a very violent attack and at this time would appear to be without a motive.

“I’d like to speak to anyone who may have seen the van in the vicinity of the area either before this attack took place or leaving the car park afterwards.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact Coatbridge CID on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 where anonymity can be maintained.
