The nation has gone Jubilee crazy this week, and the residents of Cumbernauld and Kilsyth were quick to get in on the act too.

Westfield, Cumbernauld and Kilsyth primary schools all held their own special Royal celebrations to mark the 60 years of Her Majesty’s reign.

Meanwhile the people of Kilsyth took to the streets for a party organised by the Parkfoot Social Club. Organiser Linda Mitchell, who’s husband Neil had the idea for the party, said; “It was a really great turnout and everyone had a brilliant time. We wanted it to be a free day for everyone so instead of people having to pay we just asked for donations.

Everything, from the bunting and the buffet, to the bouncy castle and karaoke was donated. We even had some local bands, who played free of charge.”

The Queenzieburn Senior Citizens Club enjoyed a dance in celebration of the event.

Member Agnes Geddes spoke of the festivities. She said; “Everyone made a real effort and turned up in their finery. As they walked in they all received a round of applause which gave it that royal feel.”

There are plenty of pictures of all the events in this week’s News and Chronicle, on sale now.
