A dynamic mother and daughter from Cumbernauld don’t want to fret about the fate of a young friend when they can fundraise instead.

Last week, Kim Fuentes from Greenfaulds made us aware of the plight of a three-year-old boy called Kian Musgrave who has inspired a massive fundraising drive in his native Newcastle.

Abbotsford Court resident Kim and her daughter Sophia (15) are friends of Kian’s family who have needed a great deal of support.

For Kian has stage four Neuroblastoma cancer which rounds of chemotherapy plus additional treatment in America have failed to treat.

The NHS says that it will try to prolong Kian’s life but the family believe that treatment in either the USA or Germany will save it and the hospitals in question have agreed to help.

However, they do not have the cash for the £555,000 treatment and friends like Kim and Sophia want to increase the £218,538 already raised.

Our Lady’s High School pupil Sophia is having her long brunette locks shorn to raise cash via sponsorship.

And Kim is selling raffle tickets priced £10 each with a prize of a visit from Michelin-starred executive chef with the Roux Consultancy Mike Mathieson who will cook a five course dinner in the home of the winner!

Kim who is a housing officer in Glasgow said: “A total of £550,000 is needed for the treatment abroad.

“We know this is a lot of money but we want to keep fighting because we feel that this is Kian’s last chance.

“Down in Newcastle this has been absolutely huge - there has even been a ‘Kianfest’ to raise cash.

“I am among the trustees of Kian’s fundraising page which can be contacted via kapipal.com/caringforkian and Sophia is responsible for Kian’s Instagram page.

“We just want to do what we can and we wondered if local people would be willing to do something for Kian too.”
