Cumbernauld Post Office in giant lease costs shock

The buyers of the town centre will chase the Post Office for 16 years worth of rates if they leave their current base.

Glasgow-based Belgate Estates said it will charge the company £2,144,000 if the premises is vacated because its lease does not expire until 2029.

The firm’s Stephen Hill stressed that this would be a worst case scenario as they want the post office to stay where it is. He said “It’s extremely well used in the town and is a major footfall generator which assists other businesses. Indeed we have had initial feedback from tenants advising they would need to consider remaining within the centre if the post office were to relocate.
