Cumbernauld pupils bid to build school for Kenya

PUPILS at Greenfaulds High School are preparing to embark on a major fund-raising campaign to help them with their World Challenge initiative.

Greenfaulds head boy Grant McConnell (17) is one of 19 pupils at the school who are preparing to head to Manga Ensoko, Kenya, in June next year, to continue the hard work of their previous peers by building a junior school for the community there.

Grant said: “We will all have to raise between £3500 to £4000 each so we will be doing individual fundraising as well as group events.

“It’s a daunting task, the trip, but it’s going to be such a great experience.

“We want to leave something complete behind us by finishing the building of classrooms that the team before us started.”

He added: “I’m always up for a challenge and this is definitely one. We want to raise awareness that if you see us hosting an event, or looking for funding, then it is for a special and important cause. We are planning several events. so hopefully people will get involved.”
