A CUMBERNAULD dancer who already knows her way round the stage at the Glasgow Pavilion has scooped the lead role in an upcoming show in the same venue.

For pantomime dancer Deone Robertson (24) from Cumbernauld Village will star in Sinderella, the theatre’s first ever “adult pantomine”, starring Jim Davidson, which starts on May 23.

Many of our readers will recall Deone, a former pupil of Cumbernauld High School, has also been featured in this newspaper as a member of the Scottish Rockettes cheerleading squad – and who has also been a finalist in the Miss Scotland pageant on two occasions.

She hasn’t started rehearsing yet but has her script to learn as she tries her hand at acting - but it’s not quite for the first time. Deone said: “The only time I had something of that style to learn was in the Christmas pantomime Peter Pan where I had a small scene as ‘Running Bear’

“I am very excited however as it’s something different for me to try and I do love being on stage dancing so I can’t wait to be part of the show and to play Sinderella is just great!

“And have met the other cast members already and there is great chemistry so hopefully when we do get into rehearsals it will be quite exciting to be putting the show together and lots of fun.’’

“I am hoping this will open up new doors for me and hopefully I can branch out into acting as well as that is something I’d love.”
