Scottish Conservatives have now named their first Cumbernauld candidate in the council elections on May 4.

The candidate is David Stark, a retired architect He will stand in Cumbernauld East - a ward that takes in Abronhill where he has lived for 30 years.

Mr Stark said: “I have never been involved in politics before but I felt I could not stand by and watch while the political landscape in Scotland is changing dramatically, potentially for the worst.

“Labour is intent on making itself unelectable for a generation and I cannot see any economic case for Scottish independence.

“ Standing for the Conservatives was the natural option.”

The Conservatives have stated that they will put up a candidate in every ward but Mr Stark is the first to be announced.
