Scottish Water has been forced to issue an apology to residents of a conservation area following a leak of raw sewage into a picturesque local burn which borders luxury house.
Bluebell Walk in Cumbernauld Village has been beset by foul smells as muddied and contaminated water streams down from woodland onto Old Glasgow Road.
And water bosses have admitted that the problem within the sewer is so complex that they have had to access specialist camera equipment to fully identify its source.
A spokesperson for Scottish Water said: “We would like to apologise to customers affected while we have been working to resolve a complicated sewer choke.
“The blockage is situated in a difficult to access part of the sewer. We have tried a variety of methods to clear the problem, but those have so far proved unsuccessful.’’
