Update on Cumbernauld election hopefuls

The full list of candidates standing for election to North Lanarkshire Council on Thursday, May 4 has now been published.

A few new local names have emerged, notably that of Westerwood man Fraser Morrison.

Mr Morrison (20)of Carnoustie Way in Westerwood is standing as an Independent in Cumbernauld North.

A keen actor who recently starred in Summer Holiday at the King’s Theatre, Mr Morrison is also a director of a creative learning agency Creative Flame.

He said: “Young people are a vastly under represented contingent of any council body - I hope to change that.”

Another Independent candidate, Councillor Alan O’Brien will also stand for election in this ward again.

Meanwhile it’s emerged that a UK Independence Party candidate will also fight for a seat here.

He is Carl Dean Pearson who hails from Craigmarloch- and is Cumbernauld and Kilsyth’s only UKIP candidate.
