A Cumbernauld businesswoman is the latest recruit to a club that wants to up the number of females amongst its membership.

Cumbernauld Rotary Club has inducted busy mum-of-five Fiona Kenny into its ranks.

Some readers will recognise Fiona (34) as the proprietor of Graceful Flowers in Cumbernauld town centre.

Her interest in all things floral extends to nature in general and she is an active member of Cumbernauld Environmental Society.

Members were particularly keen for Fiona to come on board as the club has only one other female member in the local branch.

And they have stressed that Fiona’s contribution is well underway.

President Graham Russell, said: “We are delighted to welcome Fiona into membership of our club .

“It is already clear that she is going to make an excellent Rotarian.

“She has demonstrated her energy, commitment and enthusiasm by assisting in Rotary activities even before becoming a member which is commendable,’’ he added.

Fiona who lives in Ravenswood and is a former pupil of Greenfaulds High School said that she’s enjoyed her involvement so far.

She said: “I was approached to join and I have to say the induction itself was very informal.

“I wanted to get involved because Rotary is all about giving back and so far I’ve been involved in an initiative to help the Phillipines for example.

“We are also going to be doing our Santa’s grotto this year, so I’ll be involved with that too,’’ she added.
