Cumbernauld and Kilsyth MSP Jamie Hepburn is encouraging pet owners to go along to the Dogs Trust event for dogs next month.
Dogs Trust representatives will be offering to microchip dogs in the Westfield Community Centre on Monday, October 7, from 12.30pm to 3.30pm.
The event will run on a first come, first serve basis.
There are numerous benefits of microchipping an animal.
One is that it offers a far more reliable means of identifying a dog than a traditional collar.
This means that if a dog gets lost it can be returned to its owner much more quickly.
While there would normally be a one off charge for such procedures, Dogs Trust will be carrying it to for free at this event.
Representatives of the charity will also be on hand to offer advice about general matters of dog care.
