PEOPLE across the county are being invited to nominate their candidates for the Lanarkshire ‘Unsung Heroes’ and ‘Young Persons’ Awards for 2011 which is again being organised by Supercounty, the Lanarkshire Civic Pride Campaign.

Supercounty chairman Ian Livingstone said: “Our aim is to highlight and pay tribute to some of the many ‘Unsung Heroes’ who in their own modest, kind and caring way work behind the scenes to enhance the community in which they live.

“Supercounty was among the first organisations in Lanarkshire to honour its ‘Unsung Heroes’ in this way, and we’re still enthusiastic about creating this platform to say ‘Well done – and thanks’ to these community-minded individuals.

“We will again focus on youth, and the many voluntary uniformed youth organisations by allocating awards to leaders and participants to recognise their valuable contribution which helps make Lanarkshire a better place in which to live.”

The awards ceremony will take place in Low Parks Museum, Hamilton, on Thursday, October 13, and will again be sponsored by Airdrie Savings Bank, Britain’s only independent Savings Bank.

The awards category for 2011 cover:

n Community Champion – to reflect the outstanding contribution an individual has made to a local or national project, working for the good of others:

n Community Group / organisation – which raises morale in the community, spearheads a campaign or lends support to a worthy community initiative:

n Youth Leaders in the Community – where volunteering adults guide uniformed youth organisations towards developing a strong community spirit:

n Young Achiever – to mark the success of someone under-21 who deserves recognition for his/her achievements:
