£780m budget passed
COUNCILLORS have voted through North Lanarkshire’s £780 million budget.
Key priorities to emerge included tackling youth unemployment, and improving front-line services.
Other announcements which had been previously flagged up and were formally approved included scrapping parking charges at council-owned car parks, and building 1000 council houses by 2020.
Jim McCabe, leader of the Labour-run authority, accused the Scottish Government of holding a gun to the council’s head by threatening penalties if certain conditions such as the frozen council tax, were not met.
