£7k collected in diabetes fund-raiser

A FUND-RAISING dinner at the Westerwood Hotel has helped to raise £7000 for youngsters being treated for diabetes.

The event, which took place on Saturday night, had been organised by friends and family of Rebekah Machray (6) who lives in Kilsyth’s South Dumbreck Road.

Proceeds will be donated to Yorkhill Hospital where Rebekah receives treatment.

As we have reported, the Balmalloch Primary School pupil has Type 1 diabetes and was failing to respond to

However, a device widely in use in the United States has proved to be a lifesaver.

Rebekah now uses a Pardigm Veo pump, which is a pager-like pump that is fitted round the midriff with a belt - and is one of the youngest diabetics in Scotland to do so.

Mum Jane said: “This was an amazing total and we would like to thank everyone who contributed.”
