Call me to beat crime - new sergeant ready to help Kilsyth
KILSYTH has a new community police sergeant, and he is urging the public to pick up the phone and report crime.
Sergeant Stuart Corbett has recently taken up the post in the town following the departure of Sergeant David Law.
The 43-year-old, who is originally from Larbert, has 23 years worth of police experience operating in specialised areas such as the response office, crime intelligence, training and domestic abuse.
He started his career as a police officer in Glasgow’s city centre and spent 10 years on that beat before he was promoted to the L division which takes in areas such as Clydebank and Helensburgh.
He comes to Kilsyth with a wealth of experience but his appointment received a mixed reaction at the recent Kilsyth Community Council meeting.
Concerns were raised about ongoing problems in the town such as groups hanging around the Main Street and the recent spate of break-ins.
But Sergeant Corbett insists he is a police officer at the end of the day, and will continue to do the job that his predecessor did.
He said: “The job you do does not change. David Law has done a massive amount of work in the area and that will continue.
“David is well-known in the community and I would like to get to know the people in the area too.
“If anyone has an issue, they should contact us. We are doing our best to be as visible as we possibly can be on the Main Street but we need the community’s support too.”
