Calling all gardeners

GREEN-FINGERED council tenants are being urged to enter their garden into a county-wide competition.

North Lanarkshire Council is inviting tenants to showcase their gardens in this year’s ‘Your Garden Awards’.

The awards recognise the dedication, passion and hard work of tenants in nurturing their gardens.

The gardens will be judged on quality of floral display; quality of permanent planting; quality of design and use of space and contribution to the visual environment.

Prizes of £50 high street vouchers are up for grabs for winners, together with a certificate of success.

Mary Castles, executive director of housing and social work services at NLC, said: “This year’s awards are slightly different, For the first time we’re asking tenants to submit their own entries rather than the usual nomination process where tenants put forward other gardens for recognition. In addition, we also have an award category for best communal garden.

“I’m always thrilled to see the results of months of hard work by our tenants to nurture their gardens.

“With the Beautiful Scotland Awards ceremony being held in North Lanarkshire this year, there is a real opportunity to highlight the area and the fantastic gardens which make such a difference to the look and feel of our communities.”

The closing date for entries is Friday, July 20.

The competition is free to enter and is open to all North Lanarkshire council tenants in each of the six housing areas including Moodiesburn, Kilsyth and Cumbernauld.

You can get your application form now from your local First Stop Shop or housing office.
