CBE for North Lanarkshire education boss

North Lanarkshire Council executive director of learning and leisure services Christine Pollock has been awarded a CBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours List.

The Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) is one of the highest honours the Queen can bestow and the award was made in recognition of her services to education.

Former teacher Christine, who began her teaching career in a Glasgow secondary school in 1975, was appointed to her post in 2007 following a restructure.

As executive director learning and leisure services, Christine is responsible for the council’s 122 primary schools, 24 secondary schools, 11 special schools, 17 nursery establishments and 68 nursery classes as well as community learning and development, libraries services, facilities management, museums and creativeservices.

Christine has dedicated her CBE to her colleagues. She said: “Throughout my career I have been privileged to have had so many outstanding, creative and innovative colleagues.

“I’m extremely proud of the dedication of staff in our nurseries, schools, libraries, museums, creative services and community learning who are committed to raising the achievements and improving life opportunities of all our young people.’’
