Colzium fountain may be returned to Victorian splendour

THE Victorian fountain which sits in the courtyard of Colzium House is to be restored to its former glory thanks to funding from the Scottish Rural Development Programme.

LEADER funding has already been assigned for the redevelopment of the Clock Theatre at Colzium estate, however Kilsyth Community Council member Margot Macmillan has requested that the water feature be included in the plans.

She said: "I asked the council if they could include it in a consultation that's going to take place with LEADER funding. They said that the brief was already out but they will make sure and include it at some point in the improvements."

The fountain is a rare example of original Victorian fireclay. It is thought to have been manufactured locally by the Garnkirk Fireclay Company.

Margot added: "It just really needs some paint and some work to get the water flowing again - I don't know if it is still working properly but it has certainly not been switched on for a while. It would be great if that whole little courtyard could be upgraded a bit."
