CASH has been seized from a Kilsyth man who was convicted for possessing amphetamine under the proceeds of crime laws.

A confiscation order for £35,000 was made against Peter Pollock (41) at Airdrie Sheriff Court today.

The move follows an investigation into Pollock’s accounts after he was convicted for possession of amphetamine with intent to supply on July 7, 2010.

Police searched his vehicle in the town on May 9, 2009, and discovered eight small packages of the drug worth £200 to £500, and £2,610 in cash.

He was sentenced to 150 hours of community service after being found guilty after trial.

Lindsey Miller, head of the serious and organised crime division (SOCD), said: “Peter Pollock was convicted in the summary courts for possession and possession with intent to supply drugs.

“The total value of the drugs and cash found in his possession was between approximately £2,800 and £3,100. However, his conviction for these offences allows the Crown to instruct forensic accountants to investigate a full six years of his accounts.”

She added: “Following this analysis, it was found that £160,349 could not be accounted for legitimately. Today’s confiscation order for £35,000 represents the sum available to the Crown at this time, and we reserve the right to ask the court to recalculate the confiscation order up to the amount of the benefit recorded if Pollock obtains any cash or assets in the future.

“I hope this sends a clear message that we will continue to use the powers afforded to us by the Proceeds of Crime Act to their full effect in order to recoup money earned from the illegal trade of drugs.

“The funds will then be added to the £60 million already gathered from Proceeds of Crime to be re-invested by Scottish Ministers through the CashBack for Communities programme.”
