Asda Cumbernauld’s superstore manager has cycled from Glasgow to Edinburgh, helping to raise £30,000 for Cash for Kids.

Thomas White, GSM for the Cumbernauld store, was one of 16 managers who took part in the event.

“I think it’s about 70 miles all together so we did a fair bit of that today,” a weather-beaten Thomas said.

“It’s been great so far, but battling against the wind has made it pretty hard going. We still have about another 45 miles to go.”

This is not the first time the supermarket chain has become involved with Cash for Kids, and the store’s community champion, Lynn Deakin, is delighted that they are helping again.

“The money raised has always been used in this local area,” she said.

“Anyone can apply for it so it will be used by schools or other local projects.”

The £30,000 will be devided up between the 16 areas covered by each manager taking part, helping with project there.

“Each store was given a target, ours was £3000, which we will have reached by the time the cycle has finished,” Lynn added.

One school which has seen funding come from previous projects is Carbrain Primary, whose pupils came in their numbers to cheer the managers on.

Lynn said: “We have a great relationship with Carbrain Primary School. We created a garden for them during one our last community projects.

“A lot of parents of the kids work here to so we are pleased to help each other out. They support us and we support them.”
