Cumbernauld schoolgirl is pride of the Clyde

editorial image

A CUMBERNAULD schoolgirl is the brains behind the logo that will be seen by millions at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.

Beth Gilmour (12) created Clyde, the patriotic thistle in a competition which invited youngsters to design the mascot which will represent the games.

Cute Clyde has already won two very high profile fans – Olympic medallists Rebecca Adlington and Michael Jamies who attended a launch event for the logo.

Beth’s brilliant creation is also the ‘star’ of an animated film narrated by the man who has become the Glasgow 2014 Ambassador, Billy Connolly.

More information on this story will appear in next week’s News & Chronicle.
