Cumbernauld woman’s daredevil trip in Gran’s name
AN ADVENTUROUS Cumbernauld lass is about to reach new heights in memory of her beloved gran who suffered from Alzheimer’s disease.
Laura Bergin (26), who grew up in Condorrat but now lives in Blackwood with her partner Neil Dickson, will take part in a zipslide over the River Clyde in Glasgow on March 23, in a bid to raise as much cash as possible for Alzheimer Scotland.
The charity means so much to Laura and her family after they tragically lost Janet Howie to the disease on September, 2012.
Laura explained her gran, who was a member of Condorrat Parish Church, suffered from the condition for many years and it was hard on the family watching her deal with it.
Laura said: “I found the process of watching such a strong woman deteriorate horrifying and often couldn’t handle going to visit her.
“I was the last one to see her before she passed away. She had forgotten who I was.
“As this was the hardest thing I have ever had to go through I decided I would challenge myself to raise as much money as possible for Alzheimer Scotland throughout 2013 by doing a variety of fundraising events.”
