Feeling blue over badge?
CUMBERNAULD and Kilsyth residents are being asked to make their views known on proposals to tighten up the law on the misuse of the blue badges disabled parking scheme.
If given the green light, the proposals would give traffic wardens the power to confiscate badges which were being misused.
Cumbernauld and Kilsyth MSP Jamie Hepburn is asking people to have a look at the plans and make their view known.
The consultation paper also seeks views on the introduction of a statutory appeals process for applicants when their blue badge application is refused.
Responses to this consultation will help to shape a bill to be put before parliament on the issue next year.
The blue badges entitle the owner to park in marked disabled spaces, and a number of areas where parking is not normally permitted.
Mr Hepburn said: “Blue badges are a great benefit to disabled people throughout the country, helping them to lead more independent lives. However there are serious concerns about the abuse of the system by those who are not disabled.
“I am pleased that the Scottish Parliament is considering toughen up the rules around the misuse of blue badges. “Of course the majority of blue badge users are legitimate and it is right that we look to improve the system for them.
“I would therefore urge anyone who feels strongly about this matter to make a submission to the consultation and let their views be taken into consideration.”
