Health board under fire over X-ray and treatment room services
TWO long-running local healthcare rows in Cumbernauld have again flared up following NHS Lanarkshire’s latest health board meeting.
On September 27, the board approved plans that will involve closing the treatment room at Kildrum Health Centre and withdrawing radiology services from Cumbernauld and Kilsyth.
Local political groups and residents have this week been speaking out against the planned changes.
The Scottish Socialist Party held a public meeting in Kildrum on Monday night to discuss the treatment room situation.
Despite nursing director Anne Armstrong’s assurances that home visits would be available for anyone who would struggle to travel one mile to the treatment room at Central Health Centre, residents – particularly the elderly and infirm – were clearly angered by this decision.
At the meeting, guest speaker and Labour MSP Mark Griffin pledged to raise a question in the Scottish Parliament, particularly regarding the plight of those who are able to travel within Kildrum but would struggle to get to Central Health Centre.
Meanwhile, elected representatives of Scottish National Party slammed NHS bosses over the radiology decision.
Jamie Hepburn MSP and all local SNP councillors released a condemnatory joint statement in which Mr Hepburn described the scrapping of X ray services as “a denigration of available service.”
