TWO brave firefighters who have served 65 years between them protecting people in Kilsyth have retired.

Ian McGregor (60) and Joe McDaid (53) both served in Kilsyth Fire Station’s retained unit.

The pair were honoured at a retirement celebration which was held in Kilsyth Fire Station on Thursday, January 10.

Ian and Joe both worked for Strathclyde Fire and Rescue’s retained unit which allows firefighters to have a full time job and be on call to deal with any emergencies.
