Labour of love to raise £40K

BLACKWOOD'S Sean Casey has been doing 'wheely' well in his attempts to raise tens of thousands of pounds for charity.

As the area manager of Town Centre clothing shop Bonmarch, Sean has undertaken a variety of endurance challenges to donate a total of 40,000 to stillbirth and neonatal charity SANDS, with more than 26,000 already in the bag.

Sean has a very personal reason for choosing this good cause – as he and his wife Sian, who are both turning 40 this year, explain on their '40k Challenge for Ciara' fundraising page.

They say: "In the year we celebrate 40 years of life, it is also the anniversary of our daughter Ciara, who was stillborn as a result of Edwards Syndrome, a chromosome-related syndrome, in April 2003. This would have been her fifth year.

"To make this year special, we have committed to raise 40k for SANDS. At the time of Ciara's death SANDS were a huge support and made funeral arrangements etc – all at their own expense. We will do whatever we need to do to achieve our goal of 40k."

Challenges that are complete so far include 40 miles worth of sponsored runs including the Great North Run (13 miles), Glasgow Half Marathon (13 miles) and two 10k races including one on Fathers' Day.

As one of his Bonmarch colleagues Cath Turner states, there is still more to come.

She said: "Sean is doing a 40-mile bicycle ride between two Bonmarch shops, starting in Perth and ending in Falkirk on Wednesday, August 13."

Sean and Sian are also planning to host a charity ball and dinner at Glenskirlie House on November 6.

Anyone who would like to sponsor the Caseys, who also include Liam and Niamh, or donate auction prizes for the charity dinner should log on to www.justgiving.com/seancasey1.

They say: "Please help us achieve our goal and make this year a special year!"
