Memorial service

A MEMORIAL service for people who have experienced the trauma of losing a baby is to be held in Lanarkshire on Saturday, October 10.

It will be led by hospital chaplains in the sanctuary at Wishaw General Hospital at 1pm.

Wishaw General's hospital chaplain Jim Allardyce said: "The service provides parents, who have experienced this terrible loss, an opportunity to come together and acknowledge the lives of their babies."

The service is being held during Baby Loss Awareness Week, which runs from October 9 to 15.

This campaign provides an opportunity for parents to acknowledge the precious life of their baby and to raise awareness of pregnancy loss.

The service at Wishaw General is organised by NHS Lanarkshire, who in collaboration with SANDS (Stillbirth And Neonatal Death Support), offer a direct response to the sometimes unrecognised grief felt by the parents and families affected by this kind of trauma.

SANDS meetings provide the valuable opportunity to speak to others who have shared a similar experience, as well as providing contacts and information to take home.

In addition the Miscarriage Support Group meets regularly on the first Monday of every month between 7pm and 9pm in the Quiet Room next to the Wishaw General Chapel, and two midwives are always present.

Anyone interested in more information should contact the Maternity Unit at Wishaw General Hospital on 01698 361100, extension 7890.

The Lanarkshire branch of SANDS meets on the second Monday of every month also in the Chapel Quiet Room at Wishaw General Hospital. For more information on SANDS, contact Tricia or Hazel on 07757 673 459/57.
