MSP backs campaign

A CAMPAIGN which tackles violence against women is being supported by SNP MSP for Cumbernauld and Kilsyth Jamie Hepburn.

Mr Hepburn recently secured and hosted a members’ debate in the Scottish Parliament on the White Ribbon campaign. The debate came about as a result of a motion lodged by Mr Hepburn which attracted cross party support.

Members of Parliament from across all parties participated and the Scottish Government made clear that there is no place for violence against women in Scotland.

Mr Hepburn said: “I was delighted to secure and lead this members’ debate do all that I can to help to raise awareness of the White Ribbon campaign.

“It was good to see the cross-party support which my motion attracted being reflected in the parliamentary debate. Violence against women is something that we should all condemn and there is still work to be done to rid our society of it.

“I am glad this debate gave the Scottish Parliament an opportunity to highlight the good work done by the White Ribbon campaign and to restate that it is committed to tackling violence against women.”
