MSP tackles rugby coverage

CALLS have been for North Lanarkshire Leisure to promote Cumbernauld Rugby Club on its website.

SNP MSP for Cumbernauld and Kilsyth Jamie Hepburn says there are currently no details of the club on the NL Leisure webpages despite the website having a dedicated rugby section.

The only senior club that is featured on the website is the Coatbridge-based Drumpellier RFC.

Mr Hepburn, who raised the matter with the chief executive of NL Leisure Blane Dodds by letter, said: “NL Leisure needs to stop ignoring Cumbernauld Rugby Club and provide them with access to this platform to promote the good work that they do.

“The current set up whereby they have a dedicated rugby section without a single mention of the Cumbernauld Rugby Club looks at best like incompetence and at worst like favouritism. Either way it raises some serious concerns.”

NL Leisure, however, says it is happy to promote all rugby and other sports clubs in the area.
