Neigh-bother in Cumbernauld
MOUNTED police have been brought in to help tackle anti-social behaviour in parts of Cumbernauld.
Over the next few weeks members of the mounted branch of Strathclyde Police will be patrolling trouble spots in order to crackdown on youth disorder and street drinking.
Inspector Stephen Hazlett is behind the decision to bring in the high-visibility mounted police.
He said: "Mounted police will be patrolling in Seafar, near the nature reserve by Skye Road, and in Condorrat. They've been out for a week already and patrol in the evenings during daylight hours."
Over the summer, when the nights are lighter and the weather is better, anti-social behaviour incidents traditionally rise.
Inspector Hazlett added: "We've brought mounted officers in because some of the areas in Cumbernauld are better suited to horse patrol."
The introduction comes as residents are being encouraged to report anti-social behaviour as part of Strathclyde Police Force's campaign against violence.
