New lease of life on the way for two town centre buildings

an AREA of Cumbernauld town centre which has lain derelict for many years is set to be revitalised.

Planning permission has been granted for Freedom City Church to refurbish the premises formerly occupied by carpet retailer General George on St Mungo’s Road into a place of worship.

Workmen have also started refurbishing the former Ice House premises on the same road, although there is no confirmation yet of what business is going in there.

Pastor Jim Gibson explained that the church would have a worship centre, a life centre which will tackle social issues in the town and a cafe.

Freedom City Church first opened in the town around 20 years ago, and was based in Seafar the majority of the time.
