Orange parades come to town

PARADE: Boyne celebrations will take place across the country.

PEOPLE attending the annual Boyne celebrations in Cumbernauld on Saturday, July 7, are being warned to be on their best behaviour by police.

Officers say they will enforce legislation in respect of sectarian and antisocial behaviour, and drinking in public.

The main parade, organised by The County Grand Orange Lodge of Central Scotland, will take place in Stirling this year but three parades will be held in Cumbernauld.

The first two parades will take place between 7am and 9am with an evening parade at 5pm to 8pm.

A spokesperson for Strathclyde Police said: “The message is a simple one, those who come to support the parades must behave and be respectful, and anyone committing any form of hate crime including name calling or making gestures, or people who commit acts of violence or antisocial behaviour, will be arrested.

“The priority of the police is to ensure that parades pass off peacefully whilst keeping people safe.”
