CONTROVERSIAL proposals to introduce charges at all North Lanarkshire Council owned car parks have been knocked back.

The plans, which were widely criticised, would have introduced a fee for the use of local park and rides, and car parks in Kilsyth.

And the dramatic news, announced by council leader Jim McCabe, was widely welcomed.
