Partial success for bus fight parents in Cumbernauld

PARENTS fighting to have privilege bus places for children travelling to school have had some success.

The ten pupils attending Ravenswood Primary School have had difficulty securing a place on the bus but North Lanarkshire Council has now agreed to accommodate them.

The Cumbernauld News and Kilsyth Chronicle reported last month that parents made the application because their children have to walk through isolated routes.

It was also reported that this was an issue effecting children at a number of schools, and North Lanarkshire Council have yet to agree on provision for them.

MSP for Cumbernauld and Kilsyth Jamie Hepburn, who first raised the issue with the local authority, said: “This announcement is good news for the families that have contacted me from Ravenswood Primary School and I am pleased that on this occasion the council have heeded the numerous concerns put to them, however, there is still more that the council should be doing to ensure that all pupils in Cumbernauld and Kilsyth can get to school safely.

“Parents from a range of school across Cumbernauld and Kilsyth are continuing to contact my office with their concerns regarding privilege bus places and unsuitable walking routes, which
clearly signifies that the job is not done yet.”

He added: “Before the council gives itself a pat on the back over this issue, I hope, especially with the winter nights now drawing in, that they continue to fully assist and cooperate with concerned parents across Cumbernauld and Kilsyth until this issue is fully resolved.”
