Pothole misery in Cumbernauld could cost taxpayers thousands

ANGRY motorists intend to put compensation claims into North Lanarkshire Council after their cars were damaged by a pothole on a busy Cumbernauld road.

The News and Chronicle reported last week that hundreds of cars could have hit the pothole on Forest Road, Abronhill.

It was left untreated during the festive holidays and was disguised by puddles.

One angry woman, who did not want to be named, could be facing a bill of over £1,000 to repair her car.

She hit the pothole at around 4pm on December 26 and immediately stopped her car because she had punctured both the rear and front wheels on one side.

She had to abandon the car, which is a 10 year old BMW 323, and come back the following day to put temporary second hand wheels to replace the damaged ones.

And when she took the car to a garage, she discovered the true cost of hitting the pothole as her suspension and sensors both need repair.

Her bill so far is well over £800, but she still needs new alloy wheels, and she is worried she will never be able to claim the compensation back.
